Чудесный вокальный соул из Филадельфии от группы The Ambassadors. Ребята записали несколько сорокопяток для лэйблов Pee-Vee, Atlantic и Arctic Records в шестидесятых года прошлого века, лишь один сингл “I Really Love You” попал в чарты, достигнув 43 места в 1969м году. На Arctic они выпустили свой единственный LP, СД переиздание которого и предлагаю Вашему вниманию. В работе над пластинкой приняли участие отцы-основатели филли-соула Leon Huff и Kenneth Gamble а также известный филадельфийский радио-диджей и продюссер Jimmy Bishop, так что альбом можно отнести к раннему фили-соулу. Хотя по саунду, это скорее “северный соул” так любимый британскими коллекционерами и клаберами и арктическим дыханием которого веет даже от названия лэйбла :). Philadelphia-area Northern Soul group that formed in the mid-1960’s, and soon came to the attention of Arctic Records co-owner (and Philly radio star) Jimmy Bishop. Bishop took the Ambassadors into the studio and recorded several sides, which he took to Atlantic Records, who released them between the end of 1967 and the summer of 1968. Following limited success on Atlantic, the Ambassadors first release on Arctic came in December of 1968. They are best remembered for their one hit, “I Really Love You” which was released in 1969. “Soul Summit” LP was released same year on Arctic. Many of the musicians who would play very important roles in future Philadelphia International sessions played on this album (including Gamble and Huff themselves). Loads of terrific soul songs on that album, including “Ain’t Got the Love (Of One Girl on My Mind)”, “I Dig You Baby”, “Music (Makes You Wanna Dance)”. The three non-LP bonus tracks on the CD reissue include a couple of raucous live cuts with a straighter R&B feel.
